Internet Security

How safe are you

Every person that works or just browse on the internet should be aware of all the dangers on the net. There are programs that pose serious threats to our computers and networks. The people responsible for these dangers are mostly the hackers. I am sure you all heard before the term hacker somewhere. They are not only responsible for destroying other peoples work and stealing their money by creating illegal software cracks, but also for creating computer viruses that they use to steal our money. They are very clever when it comes to spreading this harmful software. Usually by the time you realize that something is wrong it is much to late. The main target is Microsoft Windows clients since this is the most popular operating system. They make changes to your registry, attach files to your software to ensure the virus does not get stopped. Viruses are used to record all the characters you type on your keyboard and then emails the information to different email accounts from where people will try to work out your account details and passwords. You can expect damage to software, hardware and yes, to your bank and credit accounts. Here is a list of just some the different types of threats that can harm you.

Virus:
Computer viruses are a lot like human viruses since they spread from one to the other. Viruses need a human action to spread and can not multiply by itself. In other words a virus can not duplicate itself but needs a human to click on it.

Trojan:
a Trojan Horse is something that comes disguised as something else. It may come in the form of a software program or a game. You will usually get a working game, never realizing that you just downloaded a Trojan.

Worm:
Worms most certainly are the worst of them all since they have to potential to continuously reproduce themselves. They spread by the thousands (in a matter of minutes) on your computer, over your network and through your emails by looking up your contact lists. It will also slow your computer down as it replicates itself over and over in your memory.

What can I do to prevent my computer from getting infected?
The very first thing I will suggest is that you use Firefox instead of your normal web browser. Firefox is optimized to prevent harmful contend from infecting your computer. It is Free and considered one of the safest web browsers today.

Having Firefox is great since it is n safer and definitely faster browser, but we can still by mistake tell Firefox to let some potential dangerous software through. That is just the reason we also NEED to have an antivirus program running on 24. If you already have a good antivirus program PLEASE ensure to update them on a regular basis. If your antivirus program is out of date it can not detect and neutralize harmful contend. It is also a good idea to keep in mind that once a virus made alterations to your software, no antivirus program can fix it. So stop them before they get you. If you do not have a good antivirus program then feel free to look at the following
