How I got started:
I think about eight years ago I laid my hands on a computer for the very first time, not even knowing how to switch it on or off. I was fascinated by all the different things I could do with this computer, which was running on Windows Me. I played a bit off musical instruments and found a program which I could use to write my own backtracks which played MIDI sounds (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). After a couple of days my operating system crashed and I was lost. I always had an interest in technology and decided to try and fix it myself. I got myself a Dos start-up disk, inserted it in to the floppy drive and pressed the power button. The screen popped up a lot of mumbo jumbo, “path” this and “dir” that which did not really mean anything to me at all. I saw one helpful sentence there which read, “For more information type Help”. I tried this help command and up came a list of different commands with comment on more or less what they are supposed to do. Please do not go mess around with the operating just because you read this because it real easy to mess it up and then your pc will most properly not start up. Anyhow after days of struggling I had no success and had to take my machine to the professionals.

After a couple of days I got it back in good working order. They even managed to back up a couple off my files for me. I decided I want to know more, `cause next time I definitely want to fix it up myself. So once more I started playing with different Dos commands, learning to write little batch files and so on. Not too long after I decided that this world of programming was exciting and adventurous and definitely for me. I got myself some more information on programming which led me to a new software tool called QBasic which came standard on the Windows Me disk, you just had to go look for it. It was a software development program under Microsoft which gave me a complete new perspective on the power of programming. I realized that now with QBasic I could do so much more. I could write little visual effects, let the computer make beeping noises and eventually I even wrote a couple of small games. This was all good and well but once again I realized that I still could not really write any useful Windows applications with the genuine windows look and feel. So I started shopping for more powerful, easy to use programming language tools and found a couple which I will discuss later on.

As I mentioned earlier programming is a real time consuming hobby or profession, especially if you intend to be any good.
